DUBAI, UAE—The door to world acclaim opened up for “Prince” Albert Pagara Friday night here.
Following his sensational first round demolition of Mexican veteran Jesus Rios, the unbeaten Pagara booked his ticket to train and headline ALA International Promotions’ next fight card in the United States on Oct. 17.
Michael Aldeguer, president and CEO of the Philippines’ foremost boxing outfit, disclosed this to sportswriters who covered Pinoy Pride 32: Duel in Dubai 2.

Jesus "Chito" Rios to win by a TKO in 2:00 minutes of the very first round before an enthusiastic crowd of Filipinos at the Dubai International Trade Center late Friday night, Manila Time.

It's judgement day today as far as the Philippines' bid to host the World Basketball Cup four years from now is concerned. The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Central Board is meeting today in Tokyo to decide the fate of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas' offer to bring back he championship this shore. 


Only China, a country that staged the 2008 Summer Olympic Games and is about to host the Winter Games, remains in the way for the Philippines to repeat holding of the same biennial sporting event the country successfully held 37 years ago in 1978.

Meet the 16 Fil-foreigners in the 2015 PBA Rookie Draft



MANILA, Philippines – Sixteen Fil-foreign players applied for the PBA draft set at Robinsons Place Manila on Aug. 23 and at least four are expected to be chosen on the first round with 6-7 forward Moala Tautuaa the consensus top overall pick.

Tautuaa, 26, is of Tongan descent like Asi Taulava. His mother Romanita is Filipina. He attended Chadron State, a public college in Nebraska, and was recruited by coach Ariel Vanguardia to play for the Westports Malaysia Dragons in the ABL in 2013. Tautuaa hit 62.6 percent from the field and compiled 1,160 points in his four-year varsity career. As a Chadron senior, he averaged 12.9 points and 5.6 rebounds. LAS VEGAS, United States – Britain’s Amir Khan took the high road Wednesday after being snubbed by unbeaten American Floyd Mayweather for a third time in quest of a high-profile Las Vegas welterweight showdown.

Mayweather, 38, announced Tuesday that he would fight countryman Andre Berto next month in what the 48-0 champion has declared would be his final fight, although many doubt he will settle for retiring at the same iconic record as the late heavyweight Rocky Marciano without taking a chance at 50-0.
But first, Mayweather must get past Berto, and that, Khan also warned, is something that is not a sure thing…

Tab Baldwin conducted the first practice for the 16 players in the Gilas Pilipinas national pool on Monday night, drilling the aspirants for two straight hours with simulated game situations he hopes the Filipinos would know like second nature come tournament time.
Baldwin’s practice was a far departure from what many people see and know, as it was a continuous program that didn’t focus on skills in particular, but on how the entire team should move during games on both ends of the floor.

Manny Pacquiao’s recovery from a shoulder injury has reportedly been ahead of schedule and a return to ring in 2015 is possible. However, Michael Koncz, the Filipino boxer’s adviser, debunked such speculation, saying at the earliest, Pacquiao will return to action in the first quarter of next year.
