Nonito Donaire outslugs Cesar Juarez to win WBO junior featherweight title

MANILA, Philippines - Nonito Donaire Jr. survived a life-and-death challenge from tough Mexican Cesar Juarez to win the vacant WBO junior featherweight title by a unanimous decision at Coliseo Roberto Clemente on Saturday, December 12 (Manila time). The scores were all in favor of the Filipino-American boxer, 116-110, 116-110 and 117-109, as Donaire closes 2015 once again a world champion.
Donaire, who has won titles in 4 weight classes, appeared on his way to an early blowout victory, landing a counter right hand in the opening round that stunned Juarez as much with speed as it did with power. Donaire scored two knockdowns in the fourth round, the product of his trademark left hooks, but Juarez rose up each time and continued to apply pressure in hopes of wearing his opponent down. TIME FOR TRUE FILIPINO BOXING FANS TO STEP UP TO THE PLATE
On October 17, 2015, a new era in boxing history, at least from the Philippine point of view, will occur. The event would either be a bust or a blockbuster depending on how the Filipino boxing fans will respond to the challenge.
The famed ALA Boxing Promotions of Cebu is coming to the StubHub Center in Carson, California to present their very first US promotions. And to show that they mean business, they are leaving no stones unturned to make the show a rousing success. They are bringing their best guys to the show.
To help achieve their goals, ALA Promotions partnered with the giant Philippine TV outfit, the ABS/CBN. It would not be a surprise if many other notably famous corporations both in the Philippines and in the USA (Are you listening, Corona and Tecate?) will join in sponsoring the big event knowing that ALA Promotions has a great track record in putting up great events like the highly successful “Pinoy Pride Series”... Luisito Espinosa - Kennedy McKinney
"Luisito Espinosa is widely considered as one of the greatest Filipino fighters ever. Like Dodie Boy and Gerry Peñalosa, he held two titles in different divisions. Espinosa won the WBA bantamweight title on a first round knockout over Khaokor Galaxy in Bangkok in 1989 and claimed the WBC featherweight crown via a decision over Manuel Medina in Tokyo in 1995.
There were several milestones in Espinosa’s checkered career. He repulsed seven straight challengers in defending his WBC featherweight belt. Some of the challengers he victimized were Mexico’s Alejandro (Cobrita) Gonzales who was hospitalized after suffering a knockout in Guadalajara, Japan’s Nobutoshi Hiranaka who capitulated in eight in Fukuoka and US Olympian Kennedy McKinney who was bowled over in two in Indio, California"

Amir Khan: Who should he fight after Mayweather snub?
The choice to include Manny Pacquiao (57-6-2, 38 KOs) on this list has to be weighted against the fact that he’ll be sidelined for a significant amount of time due to the shoulder injury he suffered in the lead-up to his fight against Floyd Mayweather. Amir Khan will surely be angling to fight before Pacquiao’s ready to come back, which makes Pacquiao-Khan more of a pipe dream than anything (or does it?). Click for more >>>

Boxing: Khan shrugs off Floyd snub, expects Berto threat
Andre Berto and Floyd Mayweather Jr. AFP and AP PHOTOS
LAS VEGAS, United States – Britain’s Amir
Khan took the high road Wednesday after being snubbed by unbeaten American
Floyd Mayweather for a third time in quest of a high-profile Las Vegas
welterweight showdown.
Mayweather, 38, announced Tuesday that he would
fight countryman Andre Berto next month in what the 48-0 champion has declared
would be his final fight, although many doubt he will settle for retiring at
the same iconic record as the late heavyweight Rocky Marciano without taking a
chance at 50-0.
But first, Mayweather must get past Berto, and that,
Khan also warned, is something that is not a sure thing…

Gilas hopefuls begin buildup for Fiba Asia
GILAS Pilipinas coach Tab Baldwin
huddles the team during Monday night’s practice at Meralco Gym in Pasig. The
team got together for the first time in preparation for the Fiba Asia
championship in China, which stakes a berth in the Rio Olympics in 2016. AUGUST
DELA CRUZ
Tab Baldwin conducted the first practice for the 16
players in the Gilas Pilipinas national pool on Monday night, drilling the
aspirants for two straight hours with simulated game situations he hopes the
Filipinos would know like second nature come tournament time.
Baldwin’s practice was a far departure from what
many people see and know, as it was a continuous program that didn’t focus on
skills in particular, but on how the entire team should move during games on
both ends of the floor.
